Greenmount village Preschool

We share. We experience. We learn.

We are a welcoming, friendly and accomplished preschool and care for children aged between 2 and 4 years old.  We are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 12 noon during term time.  You can find us in the heart of Greenmount Village, based in the Old School community building.  We have lots of space for our children to enjoy and a dedicated outdoor play area.  We have a remarkable team of experienced staff who bring a wealth of knowledge to our children’s care and education.

Our Pre-School. Our Family. Our Community

When a group of mothers formed a playgroup in 1981, it was so popular that all 36 places were filled in the first year.  Over the next few years more families joined and the Greenmount Village Playgroup was born. In 1995, the Playgroup changed its name to Greenmount Village Preschool and became a registered charity.

Today, we are still providing high quality childcare although some things have changed, for the better.  From a group of mothers with only the children’s best intentions at heart, we can now benefit from an experienced team of highly skilled staff who are dedicated to the learning and development of our children. The preschool is still deeply woven into the fabric of our community and operates as a charity, meaning every penny that goes into preschool is given to the development and enhancement of our children’s futures.

Come and join our preschool family…

We really understand how important the first few years are to you and your child.  It’s a time of remarkable growth and development.  Your child is learning new skills and progressing steadily towards physical, intellectual and socio-emotional milestones.  We want your children to be happy, confident and enjoy learning at our preschool.

Our staff offer intentional guidance and rich experiences that build upon your child’s strengths and talents.  All our learning and play activities are planned around the Early Years Foundation Stage (you might have heard it referred to as EYFS).  We provide a wide range of activities covering all areas of child development including communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.

With our child development professionals at their sides, children at our preschool are assured of getting the care they need, the creative learning experiences they enjoy and the intellectually challenging opportunities they deserve.

Our activities

Our children love to learn through playing and exploring and we encourage them to learn through imaginative free play and engaging adult led activities.

We have a broad range activities including music lessons, nature study, cooking, yoga, mindfulness and story-telling sessions.

We also have a range of resources to support this including a home corner, role play corner, theme of the term corner, creative corner, library and book lending corner, small world toys and outdoor play activities.

We are also lucky to have a garden on the Kirklees Nature Trail that our children love to visit and help take care of.

Each year, we love our children to become involved in our traditional events and celebrations to help develop self-confidence, independence and a chance for loved ones to become involved.

We hold a traditional Christmas Nativity and Easter Bonnet Parade where the children sing songs and enjoy the experience of showing their new skills.  We also believe in the importance of community and meet different people from our community to encourage our children to be a part if it.

Our staff are called Aunties by the children, a tradition that has always brought a sense of family and trust between staff and children.  Aunties are key people to a small group of children.  In their roles, they build up strong relationships with those children and families.  We always encourage our parents to work in partnership with their Aunty to develop an individual learning and development plan for their child.

We regularly track the progress and development of our children to ensure any immerging or more challenging needs are met.  We also give regular feedback and provide opportunities for our parents to talk about how their child is progressing, contributing to their learning journey.

What Our Families are Saying

“It was 1985 when I first set foot into the Old School and went to my first playgroup session. I can still remember the feeling of being wowed by this fantastic space, filled with toys! I’m so pleased that the preschool is still here so my children can enjoy the same wonderful start to their educational journey.” Rob Dart February 2019
All the aunties at Greenmount village preschool do such an amazing job looking after and nurturing the children. Our sons key worker and the Special Educational Needs coordinator identified some concerns with development soon after him starting. Our son was further assessed and was given an autistic spectrum diagnosis. From the minute he started at preschool his development has gone from strength to strength and the aunties have done the most wonderful job in helping him to reach his full potential.
Both of my children went to Greenmount Village Preschool and I would highly recommend it. The aunties are caring, fun and very experienced which meant my children made tremendous progress and were well prepared for big school. Also being new to the area, getting involved in preschool life led to us making new friends and becoming a part of the community very quickly.
